見えない誰かにストーカーされているという被害妄想を患う美人コンパニオンの安川広美が映画会社のオーディションに参加した際、主治医で精神科医の伊良部一郎もオーディションに参加していた。太った中年男が意気揚々とアクションスター部門に応募しているところを見て広美は「なんてしあわせな男なのか」(本文から引用)と思った。本書を通して、美醜は誰が決めるものなのか、幸福とは何かを考えた。
