この本を呼んでから、今まではただ視界の端に居るだけだった麒麟の像に対して、こちらが眺めているだけではなく眺められていること。また、この像はおそらく私の人生の長さからは想像もつかない様々な人間模様や関係を眺めてきたことに気付かされた。以来、日本橋の景色は無論、作品へ接する価値観が変わった。私の作る作品もまた、どんなにちっぽけであっても、壊されたり捨てられたりしない限り、私よりも永く生き続け、世界を、貴方達を、私達を、眺め続けるのだ。

After reading this book, I realized that I am not merely looking at the kylin statue, which had previously only existed at the edge of my vision, but that I am also being gazed upon by it. I also realized that the statue has observed countless human patterns and relationships, many of which I cannot begin to fathom, given the limited span of my own life. Since then, my perspective on the Nihonbashi landscape, as well as the way I approach my artwork, has changed. My creations, no matter how small, will live on longer than I will, unless destroyed or discarded, continuing to watch over the world, you, and us.
