「監視社会」

「彼はビック・ブラザーを愛していた。」(本文から引用) という文章はジョージ・オーウェルの小説『1984』の最後の文章である。主人公のウィンストンは監視社会を否んだが、最後までその社会から逃れなかった。実は監視社会は私たちの社会と似ているのではないかと考えながら作品制作に取り組んだ。監視されている社会を鳥かごで、ウィンストンを含めそこに生きる人々を鳥で象徴的に表現した作品だ。

"He loved Big Brother." (quoted from the text). This is the last sentence of George Orwell's novel 1984. The protagonist, Winston, rejected the surveillance society but could not escape it until the end. I approached the creation of this work with the thought that the surveillance society possibly similar to our own. I symbolically represented the surveillance society as a birdcage and the people living in it, including Winston, as a bird.
