『1984年』はビッグ・ブラザーが率いる政党が支配する全体主義な近未来が舞台である。この作品ではテレスクリーンと呼ばれるテレビと監視カメラを兼ね備えたような機能を持つデバイスが登場し、市民は情報を得ると同時に党員からこちらの言動を逐一監視されている。身近なものから市民が監視され、統治・規制されているような世界観が今の日本にも重なるように感じたので、人工的なモチーフを想起させる造形を取り込み制作した。

1984 is set in a totalitarian near future, dominated by a political party led by Big Brother. In this novel, a device called a telescreen, which functions as both a television and a surveillance camera, appears, and citizens are monitored by the party members at every step as they obtain information. I felt that this dystopian worldview, in which citizens are continuously monitored, controlled, and regulated through familiar objects, resonates with the reality of today's Japan. For this reason, I incorporated artificial motifs into my work.
